Mental, Behavioral and Neurodevelopmental disorders

This chapter includes psychiatric conditions and behavioral disorders. It covers mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and substance-related disorders. It also includes neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and ADHD. Cognitive disorders like dementia are classified here as well.
Codes often specify severity, episode type, and remission status. Substance use disorders are categorized by substance type and associated complications. This chapter plays a major role in behavioral health services, insurance coverage, and public health planning.
