Possible fever or chills if the infection is spreading or systemic involvement occurs. Muscle tenderness and tenderness upon palpation of the affected toe.

Diagnosis Path: Physical examination focusing on areas of swelling, redness, and tenderness. Medical history review to identify potential sources of infection or injury.
