When both are destroyed in place in a single episode of care, the intent is usually to eliminate bilateral chemoreceptor-driven pathology, such as bilateral functioning paragangliomas or a reflex contribution to resistant hypertension, using energy-based or chemical ablation rather than resection. Treating both sides carries added risk, since bilateral carotid body ablation can blunt the hypoxic ventilatory drive more than a unilateral procedure, so careful staging or monitoring may factor into how the case is managed. Approach: Percutaneous Endoscopic
