Because the tissue is destroyed rather than excised and sent for pathology, this method is generally chosen when a definitive tissue diagnosis is already known or when removing the material intact is not necessary or feasible. It offers a less invasive alternative to open excisional surgery for appropriate lesions.

Orbit, Right

The right orbit refers to the bony socket housing the eye, formed by contributions from the frontal, zygomatic, maxillary, ethmoid, lacrimal, sphenoid, and palatine bones. Destruction of orbital bone is performed for lesions confined to the bony walls themselves - such as osteomas, fibrous dysplasia, or localized tumor invasion - where the abnormal bone is ablated in situ rather than physically excised. Because the orbit's walls are thin, especially medially and along the floor, and abut structures like the optic canal, ethmoid sinuses, and extraocular muscles, this procedure demands careful limitation of thermal or chemical spread to protect vision and ocular motility. Coding this root operation is reserved for destruction of the orbital bone itself, not the globe or surrounding soft tissue, which are captured under different body systems.

Approach: Open

Open approach means the surgeon cuts through skin, mucous membrane, or other tissue layers to physically expose the target site to view before performing the procedure. It gives direct visualization and hands-on access, distinguishing it from Percutaneous approaches where instruments pass through a small puncture without exposing the site.
