Paraganglion Extremity
Paraganglion extremity tissue refers to chemoreceptor-related paraganglion cells found in the limbs, part of the diffusely distributed extra-adrenal paraganglion system rather than a single discrete gland. Destruction in place at this site is uncommon and is generally pursued when a paraganglioma or similar lesion arises in extremity soft tissue and the clinical decision favors ablative energy, such as radiofrequency or cryoablation, over surgical excision, for example because of the lesion's location near neurovascular structures in the limb. Because paraganglion tissue in an extremity is not a routinely encountered anatomic target, imaging confirmation of the lesion and its relationship to adjacent nerves and vessels is particularly important before applying destructive energy. Approach: Open
