Septic arthritis in particular is treated urgently this way, since untreated joint infection can rapidly destroy cartilage.

Patients usually have this done for sudden joint swelling, warmth, or pain, and the procedure itself is often quick, though washout of an infected joint may involve repeat visits to the operating room.

Approach: Percutaneous Endoscopic
