These procedures may be done through an endoscope passed through the nostril, directly through the ear canal, or through a small external incision, depending on where the tissue is located.

Recovery is usually brief, and many of these excisions double as both treatment and a way to obtain tissue for a pathologist to examine, which helps confirm whether a growth is benign or requires further care.

Nasal Septum

The nasal septum is the cartilaginous and bony partition that divides the nasal cavity into two passages, and excision of septal tissue is performed to remove a spur, deviated segment, tumor, or area of perforated or necrotic cartilage. Unlike a septoplasty aimed purely at straightening the septum for airflow, an excisional procedure here involves cutting out a specific portion of tissue, often for diagnostic purposes or because the segment is diseased beyond simple repositioning. The septum's central location means any excision must be weighed against the risk of creating or worsening a septal perforation, which can cause whistling, crusting, or further airflow disturbance. Approach: Percutaneous
