The right vertebral artery arises from the subclavian artery and ascends through the transverse foramina of the cervical vertebrae before joining its counterpart to form the basilar artery, making it a critical supply route to the brainstem and cerebellum. Extirpation of thrombus or embolic material from this vessel is technically demanding because of its bony canal and tortuous course, and access may be surgical at its origin or catheter-based through the more distal segments.
