The left upper lobe, undivided by an internal fissure from the lingula despite that structure carrying its own code, occupies the superior and anterior left hemithorax. Its bronchus, oriented more horizontally than lower airways, can trap aspirated foreign bodies or mucus plugs, particularly in patients with impaired cough reflex. Extraction addresses these obstructions by mechanically pulling out solid matter, typically via flexible bronchoscopy using forceps, cryoprobe, or basket retrieval, without removing or altering lung tissue itself. Because the left mainstem bronchus is longer and more acutely angled than the right, advancing an instrument to the upper lobe orifice can be technically more demanding. Approach: Percutaneous Endoscopic
Percutaneous Endoscopic combines a puncture through skin or mucous membrane with insertion of an endoscope to visualize the procedure internally, as in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
