Hepatobiliary Duct
The hepatobiliary duct designation covers bile ducts other than the gallbladder, cystic duct, common bile duct, or the named common and accessory hepatic ducts, including smaller intrahepatic branches. Insertion into one of these ducts typically involves placing a biliary stent or drainage catheter to keep a segment of the ductal system patent or to divert bile around an obstruction, often in the setting of a stricture or tumor compressing an intrahepatic branch.
