The left lower arm and wrist muscles, spanning the flexor and extensor compartments from the elbow to the wrist, control finger and wrist movement essential for hand function. Reattachment is performed following traumatic avulsion of a muscle from its epicondylar origin, common in crush injuries or deep lacerations, or after deliberate detachment during resection of a forearm mass. Because these muscles act through long tendons under considerable tension during grip and wrist motion, the surgeon must carefully restore proper muscle length and tension during reattachment to avoid post-operative contracture or weakness.
