Another is lysis of a scar contracture pulling on skin near a joint or across a healed wound, restoring a fuller range of motion or a more natural contour.
What distinguishes this procedure is that the constraining tissue is divided or loosened, but nothing is cut out or taken away - the underlying skin or breast tissue remains and is simply set free from what was binding it.
Patients pursue release when scarring or fibrosis from prior surgery, injury, or radiation has become functionally limiting or cosmetically significant.
