The tissue being released is not removed - it stays in the body but is cut or manipulated free from whatever was pinning it down.

Release of subcutaneous tissue and fascia of the left neck describes freeing this superficial layer on the left side of the neck from scar contracture or fibrous adhesion, most typically following burns, prior neck surgery, or radiation, all of which can leave bands that pull the skin and restrict turning or extending the head. As on the right, the surgeon works near the carotid sheath and jugular vein, so the dissection plane is chosen to release the constricting tissue while preserving these deeper vascular structures. Documentation should specify laterality since the neck is coded separately by side, and the procedure is limited to dividing or mobilizing the fascia rather than removing any of it, which would instead be classified as excision or resection.

Approach: Percutaneous

Percutaneous describes entry by needle or instrument puncture through the skin or mucous membrane to reach the site of the procedure, without cutting the tissue open or using a visualizing scope.
