Release procedures free a female reproductive organ from something abnormal that is constraining it, such as scar tissue, adhesions, or a band of fibrous tissue pressing on the uterus, ovary, or fallopian tube. The surgeon cuts or otherwise divides the constricting material, but importantly does not remove any part of the organ itself - the goal is simply to relieve the abnormal pressure or restriction so the structure can move and function normally again.
This type of surgery is commonly performed for conditions like pelvic adhesions from prior surgery, endometriosis, or infection, which can bind organs together and cause chronic pain, infertility, or bowel and bladder symptoms. Lysis of adhesions around the ovaries and tubes is a frequent example, often done laparoscopically, with the aim of restoring normal anatomy and improving comfort or fertility outcomes.

The uterine supporting structures are the ligamentous and fascial elements, including the cardinal, broad, round, and uterosacral ligaments, that suspend the uterus within the pelvis and maintain its position relative to the bladder, rectum, and pelvic floor.
