Cervicothoracic Vertebral Disc

The cervicothoracic vertebral disc lies at the junctional level between the lowest cervical and uppermost thoracic vertebrae, a transition point where mechanical forces change as the spine shifts from cervical mobility to thoracic rigidity. When a disc prosthesis, cage, or spacer has been implanted at this junction to treat degenerative disc disease or instability, removal without replacement may later be needed for implant subsidence, migration, infection, or inadequate symptom relief. The C7-T1 disc space is deeper and less accessible than typical cervical levels due to overlying chest and shoulder structures, which can affect surgical approach and exposure. Approach: Percutaneous Endoscopic

Percutaneous Endoscopic combines a puncture through skin or mucous membrane with insertion of an endoscope to visualize the procedure internally, as in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It is distinguished from plain Percutaneous by the presence of scope-guided visualization, and from Via Natural or Artificial Opening Endoscopic by its route being a new puncture rather than an existing orifice or stoma.
