Pineal Body
The pineal body is a small midline structure situated deep in the brain near the third ventricle, responsible for melatonin secretion and circadian rhythm regulation, and it is an uncommon surgical target addressed mainly when a pineal cyst, germinoma, pineocytoma, or other pineal region tumor requires tissue removal. Its deep location surrounded by critical venous structures, including the vein of Galen, and its proximity to the cerebral aqueduct make removal technically demanding and prone to causing obstructive hydrocephalus if the tumor or the gland itself obstructs cerebrospinal fluid flow.
