Procedure Overview

Reasons for removal vary widely. Hardware may simply be scheduled for extraction after a fracture has healed, especially in children whose growing bones can be irritated by permanent implants. The sacrum is the large triangular bone formed by fused sacral vertebrae that connects the spine to the pelvis and commonly serves as an anchor point for spinopelvic fixation hardware, such as iliosacral screws or sacral rod attachments.
