Temporomandibular Joint, Right
The right temporomandibular joint connects the mandibular condyle to the temporal bone and includes a fibrocartilaginous disc that enables the combined hinging and gliding motion needed for chewing, speaking, and jaw opening. When a joint implant, disc prosthesis, or reconstructive device has been placed to treat internal derangement, arthritis, ankylosis, or prior trauma, removal without replacement is coded when that device is later extracted, often because of implant failure, foreign body reaction, infection, or resolution of the original condition.
