Repair in this body system is the catch-all corrective procedure used when a lymphatic or hemic structure - most often the spleen, but also lymph nodes, the thymus, or the thoracic duct - has been damaged and needs to be restored to as close to normal anatomy and function as possible, using a technique that does not fit any more specific root operation. A classic example is suturing a lacerated spleen after blunt trauma, sometimes called splenorrhaphy, to control bleeding while preserving the organ rather than removing it. Another is closing a lymphatic fistula or leak, such as a chyle leak from an injured thoracic duct.
These procedures matter clinically because they aim to save the organ or vessel and its function, which for the spleen in particular helps preserve immune defenses that would be lost with removal.

Left neck lymphatics include the cervical nodal chains and vessels that ultimately drain into the thoracic duct near its termination at the left subclavian-jugular venous angle, a junction more prone to significant chylous leakage than the right side given the thoracic duct's larger volume. Repair addresses disruption or leakage of these structures, often following left-sided neck dissection, central line placement, or trauma near the venous angle, restoring the vessel or node's integrity without grafts or synthetic material. Because the thoracic duct terminates here, injury on the left carries a higher likelihood of clinically significant chyle leak compared with the right neck, making prompt identification and repair clinically important. As with the right side, laterality must be documented precisely since left and right neck lymphatics are distinct coded body parts.
Approach: Open
Open approach means the surgeon cuts through skin, mucous membrane, or other tissue layers to physically expose the target site to view before performing the procedure. It gives direct visualization and hands-on access, distinguishing it from Percutaneous approaches where instruments pass through a small puncture without exposing the site. Open is typical for procedures needing wide access, such as most laparotomies.
