Because deep veins carry a large volume of blood at low pressure, these reconstructions are technically demanding and are typically reserved for cases where the alternative - vein ligation or leaving the segment untreated - would cause significant disability.

Hepatic Vein

The hepatic veins carry blood from the liver parenchyma into the inferior vena cava and are central to procedures involving major hepatic resection, liver transplantation, or Budd-Chiari syndrome, where outflow obstruction from thrombosis or webs can cause severe hepatic congestion. Replacement becomes necessary when a hepatic vein segment is resected along with tumor or is irreparably damaged, requiring a graft to reestablish venous drainage from the remaining liver and prevent post-hepatectomy congestion or failure. Approach: Percutaneous Endoscopic

Percutaneous Endoscopic combines a puncture through skin or mucous membrane with insertion of an endoscope to visualize the procedure internally, as in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It is distinguished from plain Percutaneous by the presence of scope-guided visualization, and from Via Natural or Artificial Opening Endoscopic by its route being a new puncture rather than an existing orifice or stoma.
