Basilic Vein, Right
The right basilic vein runs superficially along the medial forearm and arm before piercing the deep fascia to join the brachial veins, and its size and straight course make it a preferred vessel for transposed or superficialized arteriovenous fistulas used in hemodialysis. Restriction of the basilic vein narrows its lumen, most commonly to band a brachiobasilic fistula that has matured with excessive flow, reducing the risk of distal ischemic steal or cardiac overload while keeping the access usable. Because the basilic vein lies just under the skin in its distal course, restriction can often be performed through a limited incision, though care is taken near the medial antebrachial cutaneous nerve, which runs close to the vein and is easily injured during dissection.
