Restriction procedures partially close an opening or narrow the inside diameter of a tubular structure in the heart or great vessels without fully blocking it. The purpose is to control blood flow through a vessel or opening that is currently too wide or too permissive, protecting downstream tissue from damage caused by excess pressure or volume.
