Supplement procedures reinforce or augment an artery using additional biological or synthetic material without removing the native vessel segment, distinguishing them from Replacement, where the diseased tissue is excised. The right popliteal artery continues from the femoral artery through the popliteal fossa behind the knee, a deep and mobile location where it is vulnerable to both aneurysmal degeneration and traumatic injury during knee dislocation. Supplementing this vessel reinforces a segment weakened by aneurysm or by thinning following prior intervention, using patch material applied along the arterial wall to restore luminal integrity while preserving the vessel's role as the sole arterial supply to the lower leg above the trifurcation.
