Recovery generally involves protecting the graft while it integrates with surrounding tissue.

On the left side, the sternoclavicular joint links the medial clavicle to the manubrium and carries the same mediastinal proximity that makes posterior instability at this joint potentially dangerous, since the great vessels and trachea lie just behind the capsule.
