Diagnosis Path: To diagnose absent bowel sounds, a healthcare provider typically performs a physical exam that includes auscultation of the abdomen to listen for bowel noises. If sounds are absent, further investigations may include imaging studies like abdominal X-rays, ultrasound, or CT scans to evaluate the condition of the intestines. Laboratory tests might also be ordered to check for infections or electrolyte imbalances.
