Clinical Causes: Inadequate blood flow or vascular issues leading to tissue necrosis Infections at the surgical site resulting from bacteria entering the wound Poor nerve regeneration causing loss of sensation or motor function Mechanical failure at the reattachment site, such as hardware loosening or breakage Swelling or compartment syndrome increasing pressure within muscle compartments Blood clots forming within blood vessels (thrombosis) obstructing blood flow Graft or tissue rejection, especially if skin or tissue grafts are used Failure in bone healing (nonunion or malunion) Scar tissue formation leading to restricted movement or pain

Key Symptoms: Persistent or increasing pain in the affected limb Signs of infection such as redness, warmth, swelling, or pus Color changes or coldness indicating compromised blood flow Loss of sensation or weakness in the reattached limb Swelling that does not subside Limited movement or inability to move the limb Fever indicating systemic infection Signs of tissue breakdown, such as open wounds or necrosis

Diagnosis Path: Imaging studies such as X-rays to assess bone healing and hardware integrity Doppler ultrasound to evaluate blood flow within vessels Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans for detailed tissue imaging Laboratory tests, including blood work, to identify infection or inflammation Clinical assessment of limb color, temperature, sensation, and movement

Treatment Protocols: Prompt surgical intervention to repair blood vessels, nerves, or bones as needed Antibiotic therapy to treat or prevent infection Vascular procedures to restore adequate blood flow Debridement of necrotic or infected tissue Use of medications to reduce swelling or relieve pain Physical therapy to regain strength and mobility Proper wound care to promote healing In some cases, revision surgeries or additional grafts may be required
