Intoxication or distraction reducing awareness of surroundings near water.

Key Symptoms: Sudden immersion in water following a fall. Difficulty breathing or gasping for air due to water inhalation. Coughing or choking as water enters the lungs. Disorientation or confusion after submersion. Loss of consciousness in severe cases. Signs of hypoxia, such as bluish lips or fingertips. Potential injuries from impact with the watercraft or water surface.

Diagnosis Path: Physical assessment focusing on airway, breathing, and circulation (ABCs). Imaging tests like chest X-rays to evaluate lung condition and rule out other injuries. Blood tests to assess oxygen levels and detect complications such as infections. Neurological evaluation if the individual experienced a loss of consciousness. Monitoring for signs of hypoxia, aspiration pneumonia, or other complications.

Treatment Protocols: Rapid retrieval from water with prompt initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if the individual isn't breathing or lacks a pulse. Providing oxygen therapy to improve blood oxygen levels. Mechanical ventilation if necessary to support breathing. Treating any injuries sustained during the fall or from impact. Monitoring for and addressing complications such as pneumonia or brain injury. Preventive measures upon hospital admission, such as hypothermia management and careful observation for respiratory distress.
