Key Symptoms: Changes in bowel habits, such as diarrhea or constipation Rectal bleeding or blood in stool Unexplained weight loss Persistent abdominal discomfort or pain Feeling that your bowel doesn’t empty completely Anemia or fatigue due to blood loss

Diagnosis Path: The screening process may involve a colonoscopy, during which a doctor examines the interior of the colon using a flexible tube with a camera. If abnormalities are found, tissue samples (biopsies) can be taken for further analysis. Other diagnostic methods may include fecal occult blood testing (FOBT), sigmoidoscopy, or imaging studies like CT colonography, depending on individual risk factors and initial findings.

Treatment Protocols: Treatment options are determined based on the findings during screening. If polyps or early cancers are detected, they can often be removed during the colonoscopy itself. Advanced cancers might require surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or targeted biological therapies. The primary goal of screening is to identify issues early, significantly increasing the chances of successful treatment and survival.
