Poor personal hygiene, which increases the risk of fly attraction. Immunocompromised states or underlying health conditions that delay wound healing. Importation of contaminated materials or traveling to endemic areas.

Key Symptoms: Presence of visible maggots in the skin or tissues. Localized pain or discomfort around the affected area. Swelling, redness, or inflammation of the skin. Foul-smelling discharge from the wound or infected area. Itching or a sensation of movement within the affected tissue. Potential secondary bacterial infection, leading to increased redness, warmth, and pus.

Diagnosis Path: Diagnosis of myiasis is primarily based on a clinical examination where live maggots can be visualized within the tissue. Additional assessments may include:

Treatment Protocols: Removal of maggots manually or surgically to eliminate the infestation. Wound cleaning and debridement to remove necrotic tissue and reduce the risk of infection. Application of topical antimicrobial agents to prevent secondary bacterial infections. In some cases, medications such as ivermectin may be used to assist in eradicating remaining larvae. Proper wound care and hygiene to promote healing and prevent recurrence.
