Key Symptoms: Persistent tearing or watery eyes (epiphora) Recurrent or chronic eye infections Swelling or redness around the eyelid or lacrimal sac Discharge from the eye that may be mucous or purulent Sensitivity to light or foreign body sensation Blurred vision if excess tears interfere with sight Pain or discomfort in the eyelid or eye area Crusting of eyelids or lashes upon waking

Diagnosis Path: Medical history review to identify symptom patterns and duration Physical examination of the eyelids, conjunctiva, and lacrimal draining system Dye tests, such as the fluorescein dye disappearance test, to assess tear drainage Imaging studies like dacryocystography or ultrasound to locate obstructions or structural abnormalities Cultures or biopsies if an infectious or neoplastic process is suspected

Treatment Protocols: Warm compresses to reduce inflammation and promote drainage Antibiotic or antiviral medications for infections Massaging the eyelid to assist in draining blocked tear ducts Surgical procedures such as dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) to bypass or remove obstructions Dilation and probing of the tear ducts in children or in cases of congenital blockages Use of artificial tears to alleviate dryness or discomfort Managing underlying autoimmune or inflammatory conditions with appropriate therapies Addressing tumors or growths through surgical removal or other oncological treatments
