Parietal Bone, Right
The right parietal bone is one of the paired plates forming the lateral and superior walls of the cranial vault, directly overlying the parietal lobe and the superior sagittal sinus at the midline. Destruction of this bone is performed when abnormal tissue - such as an infiltrative lesion, osteomyelitic bone, or a vascular malformation involving the calvaria - is eradicated in place using thermal, chemical, or other destructive energy without physically removing bone from the body. Because the parietal bone is thin relative to other cranial bones and sits close to dural venous structures, precise control of the energy applied is important to limit heat or chemical spread toward the brain surface. Laterality must be documented accurately, as the right and left parietal bones are coded separately.
Approach: Open
Open approach means the surgeon cuts through skin, mucous membrane, or other tissue layers to physically expose the target site to view before performing the procedure.
