Metastasis occurs when cancer cells break away from the original tumor and travel through the bloodstream or lymphatic system to reach the pleura. Certain factors, such as a weakened immune system or genetic predispositions, may increase the likelihood of cancer spreading to the pleura.

Key Symptoms: Persistent chest pain, often sharp or stabbing in nature Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Persistent cough that may produce blood-tinged sputum Unintentional weight loss and fatigue A sensation of fullness or discomfort in the chest
