These exchanges happen routinely during wound care, whether in a clinic, wound care center, or hospital setting, and are necessary to keep therapy working effectively, since dressings and external devices lose suction, become soiled, or need periodic replacement to continue promoting healing. Because no incision or new puncture is involved, this is one of the least invasive procedure types in the skin and breast body system.

Change of a device in the right breast describes routine, non-incisional replacement of a device situated in that breast, such as a tissue expander port cap, a drain, or a temporary catheter used during reconstruction or abscess management. The right breast is coded distinctly from the left because laterality affects both anatomic tracking and later comparison across encounters, particularly in patients undergoing staged reconstruction after mastectomy where expanders are swapped for permanent implants over multiple visits. Approach: External
