Key Symptoms: Seizures or abnormal movements Lethargy or decreased responsiveness Poor feeding or difficulty feeding Abnormal muscle tone, either floppy or stiff limbs Unactic or bulging fontanel (soft spot on the baby’s head) Changes in breathing patterns or irritability Unusual crying or difficulty calming the infant

Diagnosis Path: Neuroimaging studies such as cranial ultrasound, which is often used initially in newborns Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detailed visualization of brain tissue and bleeding Computed tomography (CT) scan to identify the location and extent of hemorrhage Monitoring of neurological signs and symptoms to assess severity Assessment of birth and delivery records for potential traumatic causes

Treatment Protocols: Supportive care to maintain breathing, circulation, and oxygenation Medications to control seizures or reduce swelling in the brain Surgical intervention in cases of severe bleeding or increased intracranial pressure Therapies such as physical, occupational, or speech therapy to aid development and recovery Close monitoring in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for ongoing assessment Management of underlying causes related to birth trauma and associated complications
