Key Symptoms: Lower birth weight compared to peers of the same gestational age Reduced muscle mass and fat stores Possible signs of feeding difficulties, such as poor sucking or swallowing Less body fat and a thin appearance Potential signs of other health issues depending on underlying causes Delayed growth or developmental milestones in some cases

Diagnosis Path: Measuring and recording birth weight Calculating the infant's gestational age Comparing weight to standardized growth charts for that gestational age Assessing physical appearance for signs of growth restriction Additional tests may include ultrasounds and genetic testing to identify underlying causes
